La Paradeta–Barcelona
If you’re looking for a place to have a really good fresh fish and/or seafood, you definitely should visit La Paradeta in Barcelona.
La Paradeta is a restaurant with a different service from the standards. It a self-service fish/seafood restaurant. Relax that I can explain it to you. As soon you enter the restaurant, you will see something like a “fish market” – all fishes are there, fresh, with the ice and waiting for you.
Then, it is the easy peasy “choose what you want, tell them the way you want it to be cooked, and wait to be ready” – Yes, they will cook as you ordered.
There is a small bar offering you wines, drinks, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages. I’ve visited La Paradeta in the Gracia area and there are around 15 tables to sit and wait until your meal gets ready. They offer takeaway as well, but I guess you’ll prefer to be there to eat it (Gluttons always prefer to eat in the place – it is our nature). Ah, after paying (you need to pay before eat), you receive a number and will hear it when the food is ready to you go and get directly to the kitchen.
It worth mentioning the service is EXTREMELY nice and cool. They are 100% ready to serve, explain, and offer you a comfortable moment while you’re waiting.
During the visit we’ve ordered: Pulpitos (Mini Octopus), Pulpo Galega (Galician Style), Rape (Monkfish), Berberechos (Common Cockles), Zamburiñas (Variegated Scallop). There was no plate that we didn’t like. Everything was really delicious and well prepared – the feeling was to back again, order, and try new things.
Most of them were grilled and come with an optional “garlic-pesto” sauce offered before giving the plate. Everything gets ready with 10-15 minutes (depending on the method), so you won’t get hungry and needing more drinks while you’re waiting.
Last but not least, the price is OK. All products have prices per kilo (oysters/scallops are per unit, of course) and you will pay based on your glutton spirit. Bear in mind that you’re going to eat fresh fish and seafood in Barcelona, not the cheapest place in the world. But, as I said, the price is OK for the quality and you won’t think about the bill after finish your plate.
Talking in numbers, we paid for the plates 52€ (September 2020) and 3.50€ per beer (caña).
